Dahlia Lee’s James
Dahlia Lee’s James
James (2023) 4-5” dusty matte peach flowers with a very high petal count on 3.5-4’ plants. Several flushes of long green stems jump above lighter green foliage. This one has a very long vase life and the green eyes disappear when nighttime temps mellow to below 68ºF.
I named this after the children’s book ‘James and the Giant Peach’ by Roald Dahl Here’s the short of the plot: With the help of some magical crystals, James grows a peach into a giant and with the help of 501 seagulls, flies to the clouds riding the peach with his insect friends.
The story is rather heavy, especially the beginning. Similarly, ‘Lee’s James’ flowers are so dense and heavy that they nod as they are opening. I’ve harvested loads of these flowers and the nodding isn’t noticeable once they have been cut. My florists have loved them and have enjoyed working with them. If it’s any consequence, I grow Mystique, it does the same thing- to a greater degree and it is still the most requested by florists by name in that color family.
